Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Hala Zawati participated in the 13th session of the Arab Ministerial Council of Electricity held at the General Secretariat of the Arab League in Cairo on Tuesday.
According to Minister Zawati, participants in the meeting stressed the importance of the Arab common market for electricity and the institutional framework for this market by studying the feasibility and the formation of the market's secretariat and its specialized committees.
Participants discussed the regional conference to establish a platform to accelerate the energy trade in the Arab region and support industries for the production of electrical equipment.
On the sidelines of the session, Jordan, Egypt and the GCC Interconnection Authority (GCCIA) signed a memorandum of understanding and a non-disclosure agreement on a power linkage line that will connect Cairo and Amman to the GCC’s interconnection project.
Zawati said studies confirmed the technical and economic feasibility of the project, and it is important that the existing interconnection project between all the GCC countries extends to Jordan and Egypt.
She underlined the economic and social importance of the project, which would enhance the stability of the Arab electric system and achieve integration in the field of energy.
