Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Interior Minister Salamah Hammad on Thursday discussed with the Representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), Christine Matthews, means to aid Jordan in shouldering the burden of the waves of refugees.
During the meeting, the minister affirmed the depth of the strategic relations between Jordan and the UNHCR and its role in supporting refugees as the UN organization concerned with refugees in the Kingdom.
He lauded the organization's support for Jordan in facing the ramifications of multiple refugee crises as part of the Kingdom's humanitarian role.
He pointed to the effect of these crises on the Kingdom, especially the Syrian on the economic, social, educational, health and infrastructure fields, in addition to its impact on non-renewable natural resources such as the water and energy sectors.
Hammad underscored the ministry's commitment to support the efforts the UNHCR exerts in Jordan and cooperate with it, so it can carry out its tasks without any obstacles and mitigate the repercussions of the crisis on the Kingdom.
Matthews, for her part, hailed cooperation between the organization and the ministry, pointing to the facilitated procedures the ministry offers to refugees.
She said the UNHCR is aware of the negative repercussions that have burdened both vital and service sectors in the Kingdom, stressing keenness to meet Jordan's needs to carry out its humanitarian and noble role toward refugees.
At the end of the meeting, the two sides agreed to coordinate and consult on matters related to refugees, and cooperate to overcome any difficulties and challenges resulting from hosting refugees.
