Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Jordan on Tuesday slammed the Israeli prime minister's announcement that he plans to annex settlements built illegally on occupied Palestinian territory and impose Israeli sovereignty over Palestinian territory in the Jordan Valley and the northern Dead Sea.
Speaking from Cairo, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi said the announcement is a dangerous escalation that undermines the foundations of peace and pushes the whole region towards violence and conflict.
Safadi voiced Jordan's rejection of the Israeli prime minister's declaration, calling it a flagrant violation of international law and an electoral leverage that would "kill the peace process and undermine the right of the region and its peoples to achieve peace."
The minister called on the international community to shoulder its responsibilities and declare its rejection and condemnation of the Israeli announcement, renewing the call for launching a real effective effort to resolve the conflict on the basis of a two-state solution that ensures the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital on pre-June 4, 1967 lines.
This declaration and other unilateral Israeli steps, including the expansion of illegal settlements and violations against the Al-Aqsa Mosque, are a threat to security and peace in the region and the world and require a decisive and clear international stance that addresses Israel's actions which undermine the peace process and threaten regional peace and security.
