Two-state solution, the only path to Mideast peace

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Bulgarian President Rumen Radev Tuesday welcomed Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi, who conveyed to him a verbal message from His Majesty King Abdullah II on ways of cementing ties and coordination on regional issues and common challenges.

Safadi, who is on an official visit to Sifia, also met Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov and Foreign Minister Ekaterina Zaharieva.

The Bulgarian leader and his Prime Minister commended Jordan's key role and ongoing efforts to boost security and stability in the Middle East, and emphasised their keen interest in enhancing ties in the various fields.

In their talks, Safadi and his Bulgarian counterpart discussed ways of increasing economic, trade, tourism and educational relations as well as regional developments, foremost of which is the Palestinian issue, efforts to solve the Syrian crisis and the international fight against terrorism.

In a joint press conference, Safadi and Zaharieva stressed the importance of the developing relations between the two countries, and the steps they have taken to boost cooperation since King Abdullah's meeting with the Bulgarian President in Amman last year.

The ministers agreed that there is ample space and a common will to further deepen relations, citing preparations for a meeting of the Joint Jordanian-Bulgarian Economic Committee which will take place soon to discuss scopes of economic, trade and investment cooperation.

They said that the two countries are working on agreements that are necessary to an environment to stimulate bilateral trade and cooperation between the private sector in the two countries.

Safadi pointed to "promising" prospects for wider economic cooperation, noting that Jordan is the gateway to regional markets and calling on the Bulgarian private sector to invest in the Kingdom and take advantage of the opportunities its economy provides.

He also stressed that the Palestinian cause is the central issue in the region, stressing that the two-state solution, which guarantees the setting up of an independent Palestinian state along the lines of June 4, 1967 with East Jerusalem as its capital, is the sole path to bring about comprehensive and lasting peace.

Terrorism, he said, is a common enemy that Jordan will continue to confront in cooperation with the international community, noting the Kingdom's efforts to defeat the dark forces of terrorism, which is not affiliated to a particular civilisation or religion, and is not related in anyway to the values of peace and love that Islam represents.

The Bulgarian minister stressed her country's interest in cementing relations with Jordan, which is an oasis of stability and a credible partner of Bulgaria and the European Union.

During their meeting, Safadi and Zaharieva signed an agreement for partial visa exemptions for diplomats from the two countries.
