Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Senate President, Faisal Fayez, condemned the Israeli incursions carried out by extremist settlers in the al-Aqsa Mosque yards under the protection of the Israeli occupation forces.
In a statement on Thursday, Fayez said these provocations and practices will fuel conflicts and violence in the region.
He called on the international community to decisively address Israel's crimes against Islamic and Christian holy sites, which constitute a cultural, religious and human heritage.
The Senate reiterated its full support for the efforts exerted by His Majesty King Abdullah II to defend Jerusalem and the steadfastness of Jerusalemites, he added.
He pointed to His Majesty's firm rejection of all Israeli actions and decisions aimed at erasing the Arab and Muslim identity of the city, as well as addressing Israeli plans to change the status quo in the al-Aqsa Mosque.
The Senate President said the efforts Jordan exerts, under the leadership of King Abdullah, to protect the holy sites and warn against any attempts to change the status quo in the al-Aqsa Mosque, come in line with the Kingdom's role in defending the city, based on its religious and historical duty and the Hashemite custodianship over the Islamic and Christian holy sites.
He called on the international community, the Security Council, UN bodies, international organizations, and parliamentary institutions around the world to shoulder their responsibilities and play their moral, humanitarian and legal role to protect the holy sites in Jerusalem, and pressure Israel, as an occupying power, to halt its aggressions and violations.
