Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Iranian authorities on Tuesday released three Jordanians who were detained in January after their boat mistakenly entered Iranian waters while on a fishing trip, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Extirpates announced.
"The Iranian authorities released the detainees and handed them over to the Chargé D'affaires in the Jordanian embassy in Tehran to organize their return journey", said the Ministry's Spokesperson, Sufian Qudah.
Qudah noted that the release came two weeks after Tehran decided to free them including paying a fine for illegal entry and fishing in Iranian waters and a financial compensation for damage to an Iranian coast guard boat.
The Jordanian embassy in Tehran has paid the fine to secure the release of the Jordanians, he added.
The spokesman expressed gratitude for the Iranian government, pointing out that the ministry has followed up on the case since it began and endeavored to complete the release procedures smoothly in coordination with Tehran.
He said that the ministry had taken all the necessary procedures for the safe return of the three Jordanians to their families.
