Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Abdul Nasser Abul Bassal has instructed the Waqf Endowments in the Old City of Jerusalem to examine the "most appropriate way" of using the Bab al-Rahma (Gate of Mercy) area of the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound.
The gate has been closed off to Palestinian Muslim worshippers by chains and locks for 16 years and has only been open to Jewish fanatics to preforms their provocative visits, however, the gate was reopened following efforts by the Waqf Council.
The minister, moreover, asked the Director-General of the Jerusalem Awqaf and Al-Aqsa Mosque Affairs Department, to decide the most appropriate way of using the area, whether by opening it as an endowment library, a headquarter for Waqf Council meetings, a headquarter for the King Abdullah II endowment or a place to perform congregational prayers.
