Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - The official spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Extirpates, Soufian Qudah, said Iran's foreign ministry has informed the Chargé D'affaires in the Jordanian embassy in Tehran of the Iranian authorities' decision to release the three Jordanian citizens, who had mistakenly entered Iran's territorial waters late December 2018.
Qudah noted the decision to release the three detained Jordanians only included paying a fine as a violation of their entry, practicing illegal fishing in the Iranian territorial waters, and a financial compensation for damage inflicted on an Iranian coast guard boat.
Qudah expressed Jordan's thanks to the Iranian government's decision to release the three detained citizens, adding the foreign ministry has been following up on the incident closely until they were set free.
The Jordanian embassy in Tehran is working in coordination with the Iranian foreign ministry now to pay the fines and to ensure the safe return of the three Jordanians to their families as soon as possible, he pointed out.
