King says Jordan has potential to become major medical tourism destination

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - His Majesty King Abdullah on Sunday stressed that Jordan has the resources to become an exceptional destination for medical tourism, encouraging investment in these resources by ensuring quality services and coordination between the public and private sectors.

During a meeting at Al Husseiniya Palace to follow up on plans to develop medical tourism, King Abdullah highlighted the importance of stepping up efforts to promote medical tourism services in the Kingdom, describing the sector as a significant contributor to the national economy.

His Majesty affirmed the importance of the private sector initiating innovative technological solutions to attract tourists and promote Jordan as a tourist destination, with the public sector working to facilitate these efforts.

Citing the adoption of a law on medical accountability, signs of improvement in regional conditions, and increasing global competitiveness, the King stressed the need to quickly restore competitiveness to the medical tourism sector in Jordan.

During the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State Rajai Muasher presented the steps the government is taking to develop the sector and raise its competiveness.

The measures include establishing a medical tourism commission, developing a simplified visa classification for medical tourism, creating all-inclusive medical tourism packages, and launching promotional campaigns for Jordan as a regional destination for medical tourism.

Adviser to His Majesty and Director of the Office of His Majesty Manar Dabbas, Adviser to His Majesty for Economic Affairs Mohamad Ississ, Interior Minister Samir Mubaideen, Acting Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Majd Shweikeh, Health Minister Ghazi Zaben, and Royal Medical Services Director Maj. Gen. Saad Jaber attended the meeting.
