Kawar made the remarks during a meeting with European Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management Christos Stylianides.

According to a statement by the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation, the two sides discussed the burdens of the Syrian crisis on Jordan and Jordan's future plans to deal and respond to the repercussions of this crisis.

The minister pointed out that the government is continuing efforts to accelerate economic growth, job opportunities and turn challenges into opportunities through maintaining macroeconomic and financial stability and achieving economic growth.

For his part, the Commissioner praised Jordan's active role in receiving Syrian refugees and providing support and assistance to them.

He also expressed his understanding of the challenges facing Jordan, the burden of receiving the refugees and the importance of continuing support to the Kingdom.

According to the statement, the two sides also discussed the economic challenges facing the Kingdom including economic growth, and the importance of the role of the international community in providing adequate funding for Jordan's response plan to the Syrian crisis.

Kawar and the commissioner also reviewed preparation for the Third Brussels Conference, expected to be held at the end of March 2019, and its importance in providing appropriate support to the Kingdom to shoulder the burden of hosting the Syrians.

"The number of returnees to Syria is still weak, and this means the continued burden on the government to provide the necessary services for Syrian refugees," the statement said.
