Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - His Majesty King Abdullah II Monday discussed with United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), Filippo Grandi, cooperation between Jordan and the agency in providing services to Syrian refugees and meeting their needs.
During the meeting at al-Husseiniyah Palace, His Majesty and the UN official discussed the enormous burdens placed by the Syrian refugee crisis on Jordan's economy and the growing pressures it poses on service sectors, mainly education, health and infrastructure.
His Majesty stressed that the international community should shoulder its responsibility toward countries hosting the refugees, foremost of which is Jordan, and urged more coordination between Jordan and the UNHCR to ensure that host communities receive the necessary aid.
Grandi commended Jordan's key role in providing humanitarian and relief aid to the refugees, stressing that the refugee agency is keen to continue cooperation and coordination with the Kingdom to alleviate the impact of Syrian refugee crisis.
The meeting was attended by the Minister of Foreign and Expatriates Affairs, the King's adviser and the director of the King's office.
