24-07-2018 04:58 PM

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Director of International Relations and Organizations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Khaled al-Shawabkeh, on Tuesday met with the ambassadors of Britain, Germany and Canada in Amman to discuss the resettlement of 422 Syrian citizens who were allowed entry to Jordan after these countries pledged to resettle them within a maximum period of three months.

The meeting discussed steps to be taken to complete their resettlement process in cooperation with the United Nations.

Official spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign and Expatriates Affairs, Ambassador Mohammed al-Kayed, said that the government authorized, for humanitarian reasons, the United Nations to regulate the passage of those Syrian citizens, who were working in the civil defense in areas controlled by the opposition in southern Syria, and fled to the occupied Golan after the Syrian army mounted a large-scale offensive on opposition-controlled areas.

He pointed to close cooperation with UNHCR on this matter as the representative of the UNHCR in Jordan attended the meetings held by the concerned authorities to prepare for the passage of Syrian citizens through Jordan.

The coordination of the operation was also discussed prior to its start with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and other officials of the international organization, which regulates and supervises the passage of Syrian nationals until they are resettled.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) issued a statement expressing its thanks to Jordan for allowing the passage of the 422 Syrian citizens and said it had received them and taken care of them until they were resettled.
