Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Saeb Erekat, secretary general of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization, and intelligence chief Majed Faraj discussed in the Jordanian Capital Amman on Friday with Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, and intelligence chief Adnan al-Jundi political and security issues in Palestine and the region, according to the official Jordanian Petra news agency.
The Jordanian Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the discussions focused on coordinating moves in order to deal with the latest developments in regards to the Palestinian issue in accordance with the two countries’ approaches.
The Palestinian and Jordanian officials warned during their meeting from the consequences of the political deadlock, stressing that the region will not enjoy security, stability and a comprehensive peace without reaching a just solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict that addresses the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, particularly their rights in freedom and to have their own state in their homeland.
They stressed that the two-state solution, which guarantees the establishment of an independent, sovereign Palestinian state on the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, is the only way to resolve the conflict and achieve a comprehensive and just peace.
The Jordanian officials briefed their Palestinian counterparts on the communications and movements of the Kingdom led by Jordan's King Abdullah II to support Palestinians and break the political deadlock on the basis of an active effort to achieve a two-state solution and meet all the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.
The meeting comes on the heels of a visit to Jordan by two senior US officials – Senior Advisor Jared Kushner and Special Representative for International Negotiations Jason Greenblatt – who are trying to sell their so-called “deal of the century” on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict to Arab leaders and Israel.
The two US officials, who are orthodox Jews, returned to Israel on Friday and met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during which they discussed "the means by which the humanitarian situation in Gaza can be alleviated, while maintaining Israel’s security," according to a statement they made. They further discussed "the continued commitment of the Trump Administration and Israel to advance peace between the Israelis and the Palestinians," they said.
The Palestinians are boycotting the American administration since it recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital in December and moved its embassy in Israel to Jerusalem in May. They believe the US “deal of the century” falls way short of their expectations and aspirations for a lasing peaceful settlement since it removed main issues such as Jerusalem, refugees, settlements and borders from the negotiating table.
