Jordan approves outcome of Ankara tripartite summit

06-04-2018 04:17 PM

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi on Thursday said the tripartite meeting involving presidents of Turkey, Russia and Iran on Syrian crisis “confirms issues agreed by the [Jordanian] kingdom”.

The summit was held on Wednesday in Turkey’s capital Ankara that saw participation of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and Iranian President Hassan Rouhani.

The joint declaration following the summit resolved to oppose separatism as well as the use of terrorism as an excuse for changing Syria.

“The summit confirmed the issues we agree with, that the Astana [process] is not a substitute for Geneva [negotiations],” Safadi said in a statement.

Safadi said the target of Astana was to achieve a comprehensive cease-fire and support the Geneva process.

“The fundamentals emphasized by the tripartite meeting yesterday regarding the political solution and the unity and cohesion of Syria are things that we believe are the necessary path for progress towards peace,” Safadi added.
