FM, UAE counterpart discuss bilateral ties, regional issues

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Minister of Foreign and Expatriates Affairs Ayman Safadi and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, stressed that Jordanian-UAE ties are solid and poised for further cooperation and coordination in political, economic and defense fields.

During a meeting held on Tuesday at the Foreign Ministry, the two ministers said both countries are taking non-stop measures and moves to enhance bilateral relations to serve interests of both countries.

Safadi commended the UAE continued support to Jordan's economy and the national development march.

In turn, Sheikh Abdullah stressed that his country will continue supporting Jordan's economy and help it address challenges.

The top diplomats also underlined the importance of exerting concerted efforts to resolve the Palestinian-Israeli conflict on the basis of the two-state solution that guarantees the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital on pre-June 4, 1967 borders, as a key condition to realizing a lasting and comprehensive peace in the region.

They warned of unilateral Israeli actions, which undermine the two-state solution, try to impose new facts on the ground, especially in the occupied Jerusalem, and attempt to change the historical and legal status quo at Islamic and Christian sites.

Safadi briefed his UAE counterpart on preparations for the UNRWA support conference upon an invitation from Jordan, Egypt and Sweden.

On the Syrian crisis, the two officials underlined the need to move towards a political solution through the Geneva process and on the basis of UN Security Council resolution 2254, which preserves the country's unity and independence.

They also called for an immediate implementation the United Nations Security Council ceasefire resolution 2401 to stop bloodshed in Syria's Ghouta region and allow for aid and medicine deliveries.

Safadi briefed the UAE minister on the burdens borne by the Kingdom as a result of hosting around 1.3 million Syrian refugees, 10 percent of them only are living in refugee camps.

The two ministers also outlined a number of common issues, stressing the need to stop all regional attempts to interfere in the internal affairs of Arab states and that regional relations should be based on non-interference in the internal affairs of states.

The UAE minister, for his part, commended the strong Jordanian-UAE brotherly relations affirming his country's keenness on supporting the Kingdom.

Jordan's success is a UAE priority, Sheikh Abdullah said, stressing that the UAE will provide all assistance necessary to help Jordan ensure a dignified life for its people and realize further prosperity.

The UAE minister also outlined a number of regional challenges, pointing out that the UAE is keen to listen to the Jordanian opinion towards regional developments, especially in Palestine, Syria and Iraq.

Sheikh Abdullah also stressed that the UAE would continue to activate cooperation between the two counties in various fields, noting that the UAE Minister of Energy will visit Jordan to discuss cooperation with the kingdom.

He also underlined the role of around 200,000 Jordanians living in the UAE in supporting bilateral ties. The UAE is looking forward to an active Jordanian participation in Dubai Expo 2020, the minister said.

Safadi, for his part, stressed the strong Jordanian- UAE relations, commending the UAE supportive stances for Jordan, noting that the talks covered a number of regional issues, including efforts to resolve the Palestinian- Israeli conflict and the crisis in Syrian.

He also expressed Jordan's support to the UAE in its right to restore its occupied islands of Abu Musa, Greater Tunb and Lesser Tunb, through negotiations or the International Court of Justice.
