Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - State Minister for Media Affairs, and Government Spokesperson Mohammad Momani said that Jordan will place its expertise at the service of the Iraqi side with the aim of supporting reconstruction efforts in the country.
He said that the integration between the Jordanian and Iraqi economies, geographical proximity, the vital inter-transport sector, the historical economic and social relations, are all important factors that strengthen Jordan's role in the reconstruction of Iraq.
The minister made the remarks during his participation in Kuwait International Conference for the Reconstruction of Iraq (KICRI) currently being held in Kuwait under the patronage of the Amir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, with the participation of representatives of some 70 countries, UN agencies as well as international organizations and companies.
Momani highlighted the strong ties between Jordan and Iraq, affirming the Kingdom's support to the Iraqi people in their efforts to combat terrorism and achieve stability through intensive bilateral cooperation in the military, security and economic fields.
"Jordan, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II, continuously affirms its support to efforts of the Iraqi government and people in fighting terrorism, restoring security and stability, reconstructing the country and achieving sustainable development," the minister added.
Jordan, he added, is ready to facilitate the reconstruction process in Iraq through the Karameh-Turaibil border crossing.
"Jordan has always supported Iraq and will urge the international community and Arab countries with their public and private sectors to back Iraq in shaping its future and overcoming challenges facing it," the minister said.
Momani said the reconstruction process in not restricted only to infrastructure but goes beyond that to tackle motives behind extremism that lead to violence and destruction.
The minister voiced Jordan's appreciation of Kuwait, under the leadership of Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah, for this gesture that reflects noble values and a sense of humanity.
Momani praised the role of the UN, the European Union and the World Bank in ensuring the success of "this major event" that affirms support to nations that have suffered from violence and destruction.
The minister also congratulated Iraq for the victories that have been achieved against terror organizations as well as liberating Iraq from the Daesh terrorist group.
