Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Director of the Department of Palestinian Affairs, Yassin Abu Awad, said Jordan is resolved to press ahead with its " historic" role to safeguard Muslim and Christian sites in Jerusalem and to counter Israeli flagrant violations aimed to Judaize this holy city and tamper with its Arab identity.
Abu Awad, who spoke to the conference of supervisors on Palestinian refugee affairs in Cairo on Monday, reiterated Jordan's rejection of the U.S. administration's decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
On the UNRWA funding, he urged the donor countries to increase their financial support to the relief agency to sustain key services offered to the Palestinian refugees.
He also stressed the dire need to meet Palestinian refugees' needs at the UNRWA's operation areas in a bid to ensure them a decent living standard.
Jordan's spending on the 2.2 million Palestinian refugees it hosts surpassed what UNRWA spends in its five operation areas, and any plans to slash its budget will have an adverse impact on Jordan's economy, he told participants of the five-day event.
