Jordanians are mostly concerned about economic conditions, survey

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Eighty one percent of Jordanian believe that the economic situation in general is the most important challenge facing the Kingdom, according to a new survey, carried out by the Centre for Strategic Studies (CSS) at the University of Jordan on the government of Prime Minister Hani Al Mulki.

Results of the survey, which were announced by Director of the CSS Musa Shteiwi during a press conference of Wednesday, indicated that economic problems were the most important challenge for the opinion leaders sample with 84 percent.

National sample respondents said the most important challenges facing Jordan were as follows: Unemployment 23 percent, the rise of prices 21 percent, the economic situation in general 21 percent and poverty 16 percent.

The opinion leaders sample said the economic situation was the major economic challenges with 63 percent, followed by unemployment with 9 percent, poverty 8 percent and the rise of prices 4 percent.

Some 34 percent of the opinion leader sample said things were moving in the right direction, a decline by 21 points compared to the previous survey.

On the government's performance, one third of the national sample voiced belief that the government has been able to shoulder its responsibilities (the government 35 percent, the prime minister 34 percent and the ministerial tram without the prime minister 34 percent.

The survey polled 1,824 Jordanians aged over 18 and a smaller group of 700 "opinion leaders.
