King holds talks with governor general of Australia

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - His Majesty King Abdullah II and Governor General of Australia Peter Cosgrove, held talks at Al Husseiniya Palace on Wednesday that focused on means to forge closer ties between the two countries in various fields, as well as the latest regional and international developments.
During a one-on-one meeting with the governor general, followed by expanded talks attended by Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah, the wife of the governor general as well as top officials from both sides, the King and Cosgrove stressed the need to continue coordination and consultations between the two countries on various issues of common interest with the aim of boosting bilateral ties and enhancing global peace and security.
His Majesty affirmed Jordan's keenness to expand economic, security and defense partnership with Australia.
King Abdullah also thanked the governor general for the hospitality that was accorded to him during his visit to Australia last year.
The King said that Jordan and Australia have always had close political, military and security relations, adding that both sides will also work to develop economic ties.
He said both countries face joint threats and challenges, noting that the visit, which reflects the distinguished bilateral ties, will provide an opportunity to further strengthen cooperation, exchange views, and work within a holistic approach to counter terrorism.
The Australian governor general for his part, voiced pride in the distinguished ties between Jordan and his country. He also thanked Their Majesties King Abdullah and Queen Rania for the hospitality that was accorded to him and his accompanying delegation.
The discussions also dealt with efforts to advance the peace process and re-launch serious and effective negotiations between the Palestinians and Israelis to achieve comprehensive peace in the region.
The talks also dealt with the burden borne by Jordan as a result of the Syrian refugee crisis.
In this context, His Majesty voiced appreciation for the support provided by Australia to Jordan that enables the Kingdom to continue its humanitarian and relief services to the refugees.
The King and the governor general also reviewed crises in the Middle East and highlighted the need to intensify efforts to achieve political solutions to these crises.
They also discussed regional and international efforts to fight terrorism within a holistic approach in addition to the situation in Jerusalem.
His Majesty reiterated the need to preserve the historical and legal status in Jerusalem, and protect the Islamic and Christian holy sites in the city.
King Abdullah and Queen Rania held a lunch banquet in honor of the governor general and his wife that was attended by a number of senior officials.
Earlier, an official welcoming ceremony was held for the Australian governor and his wife upon their arrival at Al Husseiniya Palace where they were received by King Abdullah and Queen Rania as well as His Royal Highness Crown Prince Hussein Bin Abdullah II.
The King and the governor general reviewed a guard of honor as a military band played the national anthem of both countries.
