FM urges to intensify efforts for political solution to Syrian crises

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Minister of Foreign and Expatriates Affairs, Ayman Safadi, Monday said that all parties should intensify efforts for reaching a political solution to the Syrian crises, based on the UN security Council resolution 2254, that would be acceptable to all Syrian people.

The minister's remarks came during his participation at a ministerial meeting on Syria, Safadi stressed the importance of reaching a comprehensive cease-fire, pointing out that the continuation of the fighting in Syria is a futile act, where the Syrian people are paying a high price.

The meeting was held in New York at the invitation of US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, where the so-called "like-minded" group of mainly NATO and Arab allies, agreed to urge the parties to the war to negotiate a political transition.

During the meeting, Safadi also highlighted the importance of an agreement to support cease-fire in southwest Syria, saying it is a step towards a cessation of hostilities between all the Syrian parties and advancing in the required political solution in the country.

Also in New York, FM has also participated in the ministerial meeting of the Ad Hoc Liaison Committee for the Coordination of the International Assistance to Palestinians(AHLC), held on the sidelines of the General Assembly meeting at United Nations Headquarters .

During the meeting, Safadi stressed the need to a "political horizon" and start serious and constructive negotiations to resolve the conflict based on the two-state solution, which guarantees the establishment of an independent Palestinian state living side by side with Israel.

During his visit, FM discussed with Georgian Foreign Minister Mikheil Janelidze, means of boosting bilateral ties as well as the latest regional and international developments of common concern.
