Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Minister of Foreign and Expatriate Affairs, Ayman Safadi said the Arab Summit, which concluded today on Dead Sea shores, was a success by all standards and served, as His Majesty King Abdullah II wanted to it be, a platform for an inclusive and open Arab dialogue that translated into a decision to promote joint Arab action.

In a joint press conference with Secretary-General of the Arab League Ahmed Aboul Gheit, the foreign minister said the Amman Declaration and the resolutions and consensus the summit reached, reflect a positive spirit and desire to work together in a new phase of joint Arab action.

He added that the summit focused on priorities, the most important of which is the Palestinian issue, noting that the summit saw the re-launching of the Arab peace initiative, which is the only initiative, if implemented, capable of achieving peace and establishing an independent Palestinian state on the June 4, 1967 borders.

He pointed out that there was an emphasis on fighting terrorism and working to end the crises in Syria, Yemen and Libya.

Responding to a question on the summit's outcome, whether in its resolutions or the final statement, the foreign minister said there was a clear focus on highlighting the Palestinian issue, which His Majesty the King stressed that there is no peace and stability in the region without resolving it, as the summit adopted the Arab peace initiative and this is what was stated in its final statement and rejected all changes in the historical and legal situation in the city of Jerusalem.

He added that his Majesty held a meeting with the Egyptian and Palestinian Presidents in the presence of the Secretary-General of the Arab League to come up with a common stance on the Palestinian issue and that the two-state solution is the only solution to achieve peace and stability in the region.

He noted that the summit welcomed the U.S. Special Envoy for International Negotiations, Jason Greenblatt "and that was a message that we want to achieve peace and want to work with the new U.S. administration for peace and we looking forward for intensive consultations with it to achieve peace." Safadi said the summit affirmed its support for the Arab League and the need to continue efforts aimed at supporting it and developing its work.

He pointed out that the summit's decisions were supportive of Iraq and hailed the Iraqi army's victories in the fight against the Daesh gangs, and stressed support for the peace process in Iraq with the participation of all components of its people.

The Secretary-General of the Arab League said 18 Arab leaders participated in the summit, and everyone sensed the vitality and seriousness of the current Arab situation, which was reflected in the leaders' speeches.
