Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, during his speech at the Arab summit which kicked off Wednesday presented his view on the Arab situation, joint Arab action and challenges facing the Arab nation.
He pointed to threats surrounding the Arab world, including sectarianism, which is an abhorrent approach to achieve political purposes that contradict the Arab interest. He also pointed to plans about changing our region without our consent, creating new situations in the Middle East, he added.
The Arab League chief also spoke about the Palestinian issue and said that Israel insists on occupying Palestinian lands without a deterrent, pointing to the positive UN Security Council decision that condemned settlements and supported a two-state solution.
He called on Arab leaders to continue assisting civilians in crises zones and to counter terrorism, emphasizing that the summit is a message to reassure Arab people on their future.
Aboul Gheit expressed confidence that the Arab people and governments would be able to manage this "dangerous chapter" of its history.
