Jordan, Germany sign 44 million-euro grant agreement

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Imad Fakhoury, on Tuesday signed a grant agreement from the German Development Bank (KFW) worth 44 million euros, to finance the 2nd phase of the project "Energy Supply for Host Communities and Syrian Refugees.

German Ambassador to Jordan, Brigetta Seifker-Eberie and Deputy Director of KFW’s Amman Office, Sawsan Aruri attended the signing ceremony.

The project aims at reducing the cost of energy consumption through using renewable energy by 30-35 megawatt.

Fakhoury said the grant came as part of Germany’s pledged commitments to support Jordan, during the conference of London held in February 2016, urging the international community to honor its pledges, by providing grants to support the Kingdom’s general budget and fund the projects of sustain the resilience of host communities, on the basis of the Jordan Response Plan (JRP) and the Jordan Compact to help Jordan deal with Syrian refugees’ crisis.

The planning minister added that the grant will be used to fund the solar power systems on three installments during 2017-2019 and in cooperation with the ministry of energy.

The facilities that will benefit from the project are going to be hospitals, healthcare centres, and water supply for host communities and Syrian refugees.

Fakhoury thanked Germany for its constant support to Jordan through grants, technical assistance and soft loans to fund projects in the energy sector.
