Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - President of the Women’s Affairs Committee at the Lower House, MP Reem Abu Dalbouh, late Tuesday called for further cooperation and coordination with organizations affiliated with the European Union (EU) to foster women’s empowerment and their participation in all walks of life.
In a meeting held with the EU Ambassador to Jordan Andrea Matteo Fontana, the lawmaker explained that her committee is tasked with addressing legislations and policies governing women's affairs and family in the Kingdom.
In Jordan, she said, there is no law exclusively for women, but most laws contain articles concerned with women, mainly the "Law on Protection from Domestic Violence".
"We in Jordan, are proud of what we had achieved over a decade in promoting equality and empowerment of women in all fields, especially in the political domain, she said, adding that Jordanian women were able to win five parliamentary seats in the recent elections, in addition to the quota system which allocates 15 seats to help them reach the parliament.
Fontana praised the role of the committee in enacting laws and legislations in support of the role of women , adding that the EU seeks to communicate and cooperate with the parliament to help boost women empowerment in the country.
