Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - His Majesty King Abdullah II met in London on Wednesday, with heads and members of the Houses of Lords and Commons in the British parliament, during which he discussed with them Jordanian-British ties as well as the latest developments in the Middle East.

The King met with heads and members of the House of Common's foreign affairs, international development and defence committees as well as the House of Lords' international relations committee.

The meetings focused on means to forge closer ties between Jordan and Britain in the economic, military and security fields.

His Majesty expressed appreciation of the support provided by Britain to Jordan that helps the Kingdom to implement development programs, and shoulder the burden of hosting Syrian refugees.

The King highlighted the need to follow up on the outcome of the London Donor Conference that was held in February last year, urging donor countries to fulfill their pledges, and assist countries hosting Syrian refugees, especially Jordan.

The two meetings also focused on regional issues, mainly the war on terrorism, the peace process and the Syrian crisis.

His Majesty stressed the importance of intensifying regional and international efforts to counter terrorism within a holistic approach ,as terrorism threaten global peace and security. He affirmed the importance of containing hate speech to prevent sedition and protect Islamic communities in the West from extremism.

On the peace process between the Palestinians and Israelis, King Abdullah stressed the importance of achieving peace based on the two-state solution as it is the only means to end the conflict.

He said that the absence of a just solution to the Palestinian solution will lead to more extremism.

On the Syrian crisis, His Majesty emphasized the importance of ending the crisis through a political solution that involves all components of the Syrian people within the Geneva talks track.

The two meetings also dealt with efforts to reach a ceasefire in Syria, ensure stability in southern Syria as well as with the US-Russian cooperation to arrive at a political solution to the Syrian crisis.

Talks during the meetings also touched on the latest developments in Iraq and efforts to acheive reconciliation in the country.

The British lawmakers voiced appreciation of Jordan's role under the leadership of His Majesty to address crises and challenges facing the region in order to achieve security and stability for the region's peoples.

They also urged the international community to provide support to Jordan and host countries of Syrian refugees to enable them to address the burden resulting from the Syrian refugee crisis.

The meetings were attended by the minister of foreign and expatiate affairs, the director of the King's office and Jordan's ambassador in London.

Earlier, His Royal Highness Prince Faisal Bin Al Hussein was sworn in as regent in the presence of Cabinet members.
