Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Jordan has called on the European Union (EU) to provide technical support to help the Jordanian industries benefit from the relaxed rules of origin agreement, which was recently signed by the two sides.

At a meeting with a delegation representing the European Parliament led by Head of the Foreign Affairs Committee Almar Brook, Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Emad Fakhouy urged the EU to speed up the provision of technical support to allow Jordanian industrial sector stakeholders to export their products to the EU.

Jordan and the EU, the minister said, will organize and investment and business forum in Brussels later this month to increase awareness about the new rules. The forum also aims to provide a platform for partnerships between Jordanian and European investors and to leverage the new arrangements, Fakhoury added.

During the meeting, the planning minister noted the depth of ties between Jordan and the EU, which was recently culminated by the signing of the EU-Jordan Partnership Priorities 2016-2018. Under the new compact, the EU pledged 747 million euros in assistance to Jordan over the coming two years.

Fakhoury noted the additional grants and loans provided by the EU to help Jordan address the ramifications of the Syrian refugees crisis, and to meet the needs of host communities. In this regard, the minister said that the EU remains a key partner and donor to the Kingdom.

The minister also briefed the visiting delegation on the latest developments in Jordan and the ongoing impact of hosting large numbers of Syrian refugees on the Kingdom already scarce resources.
