PM receives EU mission report on parliamentary elections

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS -Prime Minister Hani Mulki on Monday, received Chief of the EU Election Observation Mission Jo Leinen, who presented to Mulki the final report that was prepared by the mission on the parliamentary elections that were held on September 20.

During the meeting, which was attended by State Minister for Political and Parliamentary Affairs Musa Maayteh, and State Minister for Media Affairs Mohammad Momani, the prime minister said that Jordan was proud to hold the parliamentary elections that reflected the reform process carried out by Jordan under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II.

"The elections were fair and transparent and were held without the government's interference" he said, noting that the government's role was restricted to providing all forms of support requested by the Independent Election Commission.

The prime minister stressed the importance of full participatory approach with the Lower House of Parliament to address challenges facing Jordan, adding that the formation of parliamentary blocs reflects the deputies keenness on institutional work. Mulki said that the government had accomplished all regulations needed for the implementation of the Decentralization Law, noting that the government is taking all necessary measures to hold decentralization elections next year that will enhance citizens' participation in decision making, and specify development priorities in their regions.

Head of the mission said the election process was a success story for Jordan, which seeks to enhance democracy. He also praised efforts that had been exerted by the Independent Election Commission to ensure the success of the polls.
