28-11-2016 05:52 AM

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Jordan and Kenya agreed to sign an agreement in mid-December to establish a joint business council that aims to boost economic relations between the two countries.

According to a statement by Chairman of the Eastern Amman Investors Industrial Association (EAIIA), Iyad Abu Haltam, the cooperation agreement will be signed in a meeting between businesspeople of the two countries during the Jordanian week-expo, a trade show, scheduled in Kenya in December.

The council also aims at forging closer trade ties as well as increasing the flow of exports between Jordan and the African nation, it added.

EAIIA statement underlined the importance of the Kenyan markets and its geographical location, especially as the country is a member of East African Community(EAC) that includes the Republics of Burundi, Rwanda, the United Republic of Tanzania, and the Republic of Uganda.

The economic ties between the two countries were further promoted following the visit of his Majesty King Abdullah II to Kenya last September, during which he held talks with Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta in Nairobi that focused on means to enhance economic relations .

Talks also tackled the Kingdom's intention to open an embassy in Nairobi and to appoint a Jordanian commercial attaché in Nairobi.
