CID warns of misleading, fabricated e-mails

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Monday warned against circulated e-mails and internet messages that contain misleading stories and incorrect rumors saying they aimed at raising fears among citizens.

Following reports and questions from citizens, who received misleading emails and suspicious messages through social networks, Cyber Crime Section at the Public Security Department’s CID said it has spotted many of these misleading e-mails and false stories.

It revealed that some of these messages warned people, especially women of individuals who distribute identity cards containing narcotic substances. Other fabricated messages telling that missing children were being placed at public streets to draw the attention of drivers, attack them and steal their money.

The CID urged citizens not to be misled by these fake stories and also not to circulate them through social networks or via smart phone applications without verifying them from official sources.

The department stressed that any citizen can contact the Cyber Crime section either via its email address (cyber.crimes@psd.gov.jo) or through its Facebook account for any question or inquires about these misleading emails and messages.
