Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Senators said Tuesday that His Majesty King Abdullah's Sixth Discussion Paper released this week had sought to emphasise rule of law in the management of the state based on justice, equality and equal opportunity to arrive at the civil state.

"His Majesty looks to the future of Jordan as a civil state, where all its people are equal in the rights and obligations stipulated by the constitution in the shadow of developments in the region and drastic change that could have dire consequences that underline the importance of the country's sovereignty, renaissance and achieving justice", said Senator Adel Bani Mohammad.

He stressed the need to apply the rule of law by all so that the citizens can feel it, referring to the need to deal with such illegal practices mentioned by the sixth paper as festive firing, nepotism and favouritism, unequal opportunity and traffic offenses.

Senator Haya Al Qarallah pointed to the importance of the thoughts brought up by the discussion paper to galvanize a national dialogue for consensus on the reform process, promote public participation in the decision-making process and maintain the momentum of a constructive reform process.

Senator Fida' Al Hmoud said the discussion paper would put the three authorities before their responsibilities to achieve rule of law as a role model for individuals to abide by the law, adding that the respect of the law is not the sole responsibility of the authorities, but is a key requirement of citizenship.

She emphasised the need to enhance parliament's oversight role to ensure the enforcement and respect of the law "in a manner to promote the citizen's confidence in the parliament".
