Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Public Security Department (PSD) Director Maj. Gen. Al Atef Saudi said on Sunday his agency is on the highest level of readiness to ensure a secure atmosphere for holding Tuesday's parliamentary elections.
The police chief, who met his aides and senior officers, said his department would fully carry out its task to the proper security environment throughout the electoral process in its various stages, starting with securing polling stations and vote-counting centres and ending up with the declaration of final results.
He urged the PSD personnel to carry out their assignments with "utmost seriousness and firmness, exercise the highest policing standards with patience, adhere to the law and stay neutral towards all to win the trust of the public.
As of tomorrow, the police director said, security and traffic plans will be enacted to protect the electoral process and ensure the free access of voters to polling centres.
He also said the PSD will closely coordinate with the Gendarmerie and other security bodies, the Independent Elections Commission and the public, vowing zero tolerance with such violations as gatherings outside voting centres, campaigning, firing weapons or driving in convoys that obstructs traffic.
He said mechanized and foot police patrols will be deployed in various areas to deny those trying to mar the election the opportunity to carry out their criminal designs, stressing the public's role in this endeavour.
