Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - His Majesty King Abdullah II, on Sunday, received Pope Tawadros II of Alexandria, the leader of Egypt's Coptic Orthodox Church. During the meeting attended by HRH Prince Ghazi bin Muhammad, the King’s personal envoy and adviser for religious and cultural affair, the King said Jordan has been and will always be a model for Muslim-Christian harmony and coexistence here in the region and across the globe.
King Abdullah stressed that the Kingdom will continue to entrench the principles of communication, dialogue and understanding between the different faiths.
The meeting touched on ways to encourage the Copts to visit holy sites in Jordan, including the Baptism site in the Jordan Valley. The King and Pope Tawadros II also discussed a forthcoming meeting for the Middle East Council of Churches that will be held in Jordan.
Pope Tawadros II hailed Jordan's efforts, led by His Majesty the King, to promote mutual understanding and build bridges of convergence between the followers of different religions. He also commended the Hashemite role in protecting and safeguarding Muslim and holy sites in Jerusalem.
