King, Egyptian president discuss ties, Mideast issues

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - His Majesty King Abdullah II, on Wednesday, arrived back home after a short visit to Egypt where he held talks with President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi on ways to cement ties between the two countries and a number of Middle East issues.

The two leaders discussed forthcoming talks a joint Jordanian-Egyptian committee will hold later this month, saying the meetings should establish stronger bilateral relations and explore further areas for mutual cooperation.

King Abdullah and President El-Sisi agreed on the need to forger closer coordination and coordination on a host of issues the two countries see eye-to-eye on. The King said Jordan will always stand by Egypt in all circumstances.

The talks dealt with the fight against terrorism with the two leaders emphasizing the need for a concerned international and Muslim effort to counter terrorist and extremist organizations which distort the true image of Islam.

The Egyptian president commended Jordan's role and efforts in defending Muslim and Arab causes and protecting Muslim and Christian shrines in the holy city of Jerusalem.

On the Palestinian issue, the two leaders called for breaking the deadlock in peacemaking and launching serious negotiations that bring about an independent Palestinian state on pre-1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.

King Abdullah and President El-Sisi also commended Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas's move to achieve Palestinian-Palestinian reconciliation.

On Syria, the two leaders stressed the need for finding a political solution that puts an end to the crisis in that Arab country and prevent any spillover of violence and terrorism to neighboring countries.

They also tacked the latest developments in Iraq and Libya.
