Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - His Majesty King Abdullah II, the supreme commander of the armed forces, Sunday decorated two police officers who arrested the terrorist who carried out the cowardly attack on the General Intelligence Department office in Baqaa in June.

The King bestowed upon Captain Faisal Odwan and Sergeant Ahmad Odwan of the Public Security Department's Royal Department for Environment Protection, the bravery and recue medal of the second order in recognition of their heroism in apprehending the terrorist who carried out the deadly attack.

His Majesty said as he received the officers and their families at al Husseiniyeh Palace that he was proud of "their heroic act, sacrifice and courage, which had won the recognition and pride of all Jordanians".

"With your courageous deed, you have embodied the true meaning of a soldier and citizenship, and have presented an honourable model that underscores the cohesion of all our people and their awareness of and keenness on preserving Jordan's security. Your action is an inspiration to all Jordanians and an extension of their continuous heroism", the King told the officers.

He said that loyal Jordanians prove their patriotism at hard times, adding that "the vicious attempts to which our country has been exposed calls on us, as Jordanians, to stand together and be the watchful eye on its security".

Jordan cannot be defeated by any cowardly terrorist act, the King said, vowing that such attacks would only increase its determination to fight the "forces of evil and deviation, whose ideology has no place among Jordanians, who stand in one trench to defend their nation and their tolerant religion and its noble values", His Majesty said.

No one can undermine Jordan's power, security and unity, he said, adding that with the determination and courage of the armed forces and security agencies, the Kingdom will remain resilient and will withstand all challenges.

The two rangers said they were overwhelmed with the royal gesture, which, they said, would be a "badge of honour and a motivation for further sacrifice to safeguard the country's security and stability.

The officers arrested the attacker as he acted suspiciously at a mosque near Baqaa. Sergeant Ahmad Odwan was critically injured as he struggled with the terrorist before his arrest. He was admitted to the Al Hussein Medical Centre, where he underwent surgery and will remain under observation until his full recovery.
