SOFEX 2016 arms fair kicks off tomorrow

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - The 11th Special Operations Forces Exhibition (SOFEX) 2016, which is specialized in the defense industry and the manufacturing of special operations equipment, will start Monday at the King Abdullah I Air Base in Marka, under the supervision of HRH Prince Faisal Bin Al Hussein.

This year's event coincides with the Kingdom's celebrations of the Great Arab Revolt centennial. It is the largest defense exhibition in the field of special and national security operations in the Middle East and North Africa.

The fair will gather more than 380 military companies from 37 countries around the world, including major manufacturers and developers of defense equipment, with senior military officials, decision makers and government representatives, Managing Director of SOFEX, Amer Tabbah, stated.

He added in a statement that SOFEX 2016 will begin its activities by the Middle East Special Operations Commanders Conference under the theme ( The Special Operations Forces and Emerging Hybrid Threat Environment). The conference will see the participations of 105 delegations representing 54 countries, including head of states, defense ministers and army chiefs.

"It has been two decades since the 1996 debut of the conference, and we will build on the achievements of the previous sessions, having become a platform for launching strategic partnerships aimed at cooperation", Tabbah said.

Delegates taking part in the fair will have the chance to give a first-hand look at cutting-edge defense and national security technologies and systems, the official added.

He also pointed to the efforts of the Jordanian Armed Forces - the Arab Army and the Public Security Department, which played a role in the event's success, especially in terms of their participation in international peacekeeping and humanitarian missions around the world and as Jordan is considered the largest participant in peacekeeping tasks among Arab states.
