Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Countries hit by the Syrian refugee crisis, including Jordan, should think up new strategies for their labor markets and abandon traditional controls if they want to successfully grapple with the crisis with the least possible losses, Minister of Labor Nidal Qatamin said on Sunday.
Addressing the 43rd session of the Arab Labor Conference, Qatamin said the labor market in Jordan and other countries hit by the refugee crisis can recover if the roots of the crisis are addressed, adding that the lack of security and stability makes it impossible for the economy to grow or for investments to come.
The minister said Jordan's already-pressured economy and labor market has taken more burdens as a result of the refugee crisis while international support to alleviate the crisis remains weak. He spoke about a national Jordanian plan to allow Syrian refugees into the labor market according to a tightly-knit plan.
