Jordanian security clash with extremist militants in Irbid

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Jordanian security forces Tuesday evening clashed with extremist militants as part of a major manhunt in Irbid ,security forces said.

Special forces took part in the large scale operation which a security official described as one of the largest manhunts .

Most of these militants holed in Irbid camp and Hanina to the city center and the outskirts of the eastern boundary adjacent to the Al-Hashemi street.

Ammon learned that the security forces deployed dozens of troops to crime scene.

It is expected to issue an official statement about Irbid operation shortly.

A special police force raided the hideouts of a number of outlaws in the northern city of Irbid Tuesday evening, a police source said. A gunfight broke out in one of the locations the police force raided, injuring three policemen who were rushed to a nearby hospital.

The source said there are injuries and deaths among the outlaws but their number is not determined yet as operation is still ongoing. The source added that the remaining outlaws are now surrounded in a house.

The raids were carried out according to a plan devised based on intelligence information security agencies collected about those persons. Further information will be released when the operation is over.
