Gov't mulls stiffer penalties for assaults on academic, medical staff

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - The government, on Wednesday, decided to go ahead with a draft law introducing amendments to the penal code to stiffen penalties against those who assault academic staff at schools, universities and colleges and medical cadres at hospitals and clinics.

According to the draft, the penal code shall include a separate article setting forth a prison sentence of no less than a year for those who assault academic and medical staff at their place of work.

Minister of Justice, Bassam Talhouni, said the amendments seek to curb assaults against academics and doctors and said the government was ready to amend any other legislation needed to completely stop such acts.
