Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Interior Minister Salamah Hammad, Monday held talks in Doha with Qatar's Prime Minister, Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser Al Thani, with a focus on enhancing cooperation in political, security and policing fields.

The two sides agreed to step up cooperation and coordinate closely in combatting drug smuggling that posed a grave danger to the security and safety of Arab communities and "to nip this phenomenon in the bud".

They also discussed the condition of students studying in Jordanian and Qatari security institutes and colleges in addition to developments in the region and their repercussions at the Arab and regional levels.

Hammad said his visit, which was at the invitation of the Qatari Prime Minister, will further bolster ties in the police training domain and the exchange of expertise and security information. He stressed the need for close and continuous bilateral coordination through the devising advanced liaison and communication mechanisms to fight terrorism and crime. The interior minister reviewed Jordan's efforts to secure its borders against any breaches, and emphasized that the Kingdom is a bulwark for the Arab countries and is capable of fending off external threats.

The Qatari Prime Minister said the Gulf Arab state is interested in a joint security committee between the Interior Ministries in both countries, headed by their public security chiefs, to develop joint cooperation, a proposal that was welcomed by Hammad.

In another meeting, Hammad discussed with the Director of the Qatari Anti-Narcotics General Administration, Brig. Ahmed Al Kawari, joint cooperation in the fight against drug smuggling. Kawari pledged cooperation with Jordan's Anti-Narcotics Department and to provide it with data and support to curb the drug trade.
