Jordan condemns Israel's closure of Al-Aqsa gates

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Jordan condemned on Wednesday the Israeli occupation authorities’ closure of Al Aqsa Mosque gates for Muslim worshippers and their permission to settlers and extremists to storm the Al Haram Al Sharif under the protection of occupation forces.
Minister of State for Media Affairs Mohammad Momani reiterated Jordan's rejection of such measures and warned of attempts to change the status quo in the holy city.
Momani, who is also the government spokesperson, stressed the importance of commitment to results of the trilateral meeting in 2014 between His Majesty King Abdullah II, US Secretary of State John Kerry and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that called for preserving the status quo in the Jerusalem and respecting the historical Hashemite custodianship over holy sites in East Jerusalem.
Momani said that Jordan and through the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs has appointed 52 new employees and guards at the Jerusalem Awqaf Department.
"Under the directives of His Majesty King Abdullah II which aim at the preservation of Al-Aqsa Mosque and supporting the steadfastness of the Jerusalemites, another 70 employees and guards will also be appointed soon, " the minister added.
