PM, TIKA president discuss cooperation

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour on Thursday met with President of the Turkish International Cooperation and Development Agency (TIKA) Mehmet Siddik Yildrim.

During the meeting, which was attended by Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Imad Fakhoury, and Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply Maha Ali, Ensour was briefed on activities and programs of TIKA to support development in many countries.

The Turkish official voiced the agency's readiness to support Jordan in the technical, capacity building and training fields, noting that the TIKA is interested in supporting the implementation of projects in the areas of education, maintenance of school buildings and mosques, health, water, culture as well as small- and medium-sized projects.

Jordan and Turkey signed last year a framework agreement to regulate economic cooperation related to grants and assistance Ankara will provide to Amman in the near future.

Yildrim expressed hope that the agreement will be implemented soon to enable the agency to establish a headquarter in Jordan.

Ensour highlighted the historical ties between Jordan and Turkey as well as keenness to boost relations with Turkey in various fields.

Jordan, he said, is interested in benefiting from Turkish expertise in various domains and thanked Ankara for its technical support to the Kingdom.

TIKA is a government department of the Prime Ministry of Turkey. It is responsible for organization of the bulk of Turkey's official development assistance to developing countries.
