Eid al-Fitr crescent to be observed on Thursday

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Chief Justice Ahmad Hilayel called for observing Shawwal crescent (Eid al-Fitr) on Thursday evening, July 16.

The crescent (hilal) will mark the start of the Hijri month of Shawwal, the first day of which is celebrated as Eid al-Fitr.

The Supreme Judge Department will hold a religious celebration, in the presence of the Grand Mufti, Awqaf minister, senior religious officials and astronomy specialists, where Hilayel will announce the proven or unproven sighting of Shawwal crescent and determine the day of Eid al-Fitr.

A number of locations were determined for observing the Shawwal crescent across the Kingdom.

Chief Justice instructed Sharia courts to be opened Thursday evening to hear citizens' testimonies according to Sharia conditions.

He also called on the media not to publish any news about the sighting of the hilal unless permitted by the Chief Justice and the Supreme Judge Department after the sighting's official announcement.
