Nominations for the list this year include five natural sites, 31 cultural sites and one mixed site, which is both natural and cultural. In case the Baptism site, 40 kilometers west of Amman, is inscribed on the list, it will increase its global importance, especially after affirming the church's recognition of the sacred nature of this terrain, UNESCO added. Also known as Bethany Beyond the Jordan, the site is where Jesus Christ was baptized by John the Baptist, according to Christian beliefs.
