Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Jordan revealed on Thursday that Iraq ranked second in the import of Jordanian vegetables and fruits during the month of April.
It reports Jordan's Minister of Agriculture, Akef Zu'bi, as saying: "Jordan exported 58.6 thousand tonnes of vegetables and fruits during the month of April, of which 53 thousand tonnes corresponded to vegetables and 5.6 tonnes to fruit," noting that "these export volumes are 6.7% greater than in April last year, in spite of the recent closure of the Syrian market to Jordanian agricultural products recently and the delayed opening of the Iraqi market (announced on 5 April 2015)."
He added that, overall, "the Arab Gulf received 78.6% of the country's total exports, followed by Iraq, with 16.6% and other countries, with 4.8%," adding that "tomatoes accounted for 60% of the vegetable shipments and lettuce for 11%, while melons and watermelons were, by far, the most exported fruits."
