King stresses importance of strengthening partnership, cooperation between authorities

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - His Majesty King Abdullah II Wednesday stressed the importance of strengthening partnership and cooperation between authorities while dealing with national issues, to serve the nation, its citizens and the public interest.

During a meeting with Lower House Speaker Atef Tarawneh and Chairmen of Parliamentarian Committees at Al Husseinyieh Palace, the King pointed out the parliamentary committees' role in approving laws and regulations as per national priorities.

King Abdullah stressed the importance of completing the task of formulating the parliamentary code of conduct, as a key element in ensuring better performance by the representatives and addressing problems facing parliamentary performance, including the lack of quorum.

At the meeting, which was also attended by Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour, His Majesty the King noted the importance of strengthening consultation with the government on important draft laws at this stage, particularly decentralization and municipalities laws, due to the pivotal role they will play in promoting local development.

With respect to issues related to public affairs, His Majesty emphasized that improving the citizens' living conditions, creating jobs and reducing unemployment and poverty rates remain a top priority and must be dealt with in partnership with all.

The meeting reviewed challenges facing the national economy, mainly ways of diversifying energy sources, the Lower House's role in submitting proposals to the government in this area, and clarifying these to the citizens in the various governorates across the Kingdom.

His Majesty pointed out the need to pay more attention to the vital sectors in Jordan, especially the agricultural sector and the challenges facing it. This he said, requires putting in place a participatory strategy involving various parties to ensure that obstacles affecting workers in this sector are overcome and issues related to agricultural products and marketing mechanisms are resolved.

King Abdullah reviewed the ongoing regional and international developments, stressing that Jordan will continue coordinating with various Arab and international parties concerned, regarding challenges facing the Middle East and ways to deal with them.

Regarding the situation on the northern border of the Kingdom, His Majesty expressed his satisfaction over the security situation on the Jordanian border, thanks to the efforts of the Armed Forces and various security agencies.

His Majesty said that Jordan's participation in the Arab military coalition in Yemen comes in response to an official request from the legitimate regime of President Abed Rabbo Hadi Mansour of Yemen, and to prevent foreign interference in the internal affairs of this brotherly country. Jordan stands by Yemen and its people and supports solutions agreed upon by its people.

The King added that Jordan is fighting a war to counter terrorism and extremism and is doing so in defense of Islam and human values, a policy that requires adopting a holistic approach to defeat the "Kharijites of our time."

His Majesty stressed that the security and stability of the Arab Gulf states is important for the security and stability of Jordan.

On the situation in Iraq, King Abdullah pointed out that the Kingdom is keen to support the Iraqi government's efforts to confront terrorism and extremist gangs, to ensure the security and stability in this Arab country and its brotherly people.

His Majesty also stressed the need to find a comprehensive political solution to the Syrian crisis, ending the cycle of violence there, and to preserve the unity of Syria's land and people.

With regard to efforts to achieve peace, His Majesty warned of the delay in reaching a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue, which is the central issue and is at the core of the conflict in the region. He urged the international community to intensify its efforts to revive peace talks between the Palestinians and Israelis.
