Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - - All Central Electricity Generating Company (CEGCO) sites have been granted three international integrated management system certifications including the ISO 9001:2008 for quality management, the ISO 14001:2004 for environmental management, as well as the BS OHSAS 18001:2007 for occupational health and general safety management. The mentioned sites comprised CEGCO’s main headquarters, Aqaba Thermal Power Station, Al-Hussein Thermal Power Station, Rehab Power Station and Risha Gas Power Station.
CEGCO attained the certifications following an eight-month evaluation project that assessed the Company’s standard procedures and applications. The performance evaluation project, which was carried out in cooperation with a specialized consultancy firm, compared the international requirements for integrated management systems to procedures being implemented at CEGCO’s various sites and stations. The project featured employee lectures on integrated management systems, in addition to workshops that trained a group of employees on how to carry out internal environmental and vocational health and safety audits in order to gauge the effectiveness of the systems, optimize their performance and mitigate potential implementation obstacles. At the conclusion of the evaluation project, which confirmed full compliance, CEGCO was granted the international certifications by an authorized worldwide company.
Commenting on this achievement, CEGCO’s CEO expressed his pleasure at attaining the certifications, which confirm the Company’s commitment to implementing environmental best practices, and to creating a safe workplace on par with international standards. “Our dedication to complying with these systems will allow us to not only enhance our performance levels, but will also help us reduce potential risks with regards to employee health and safety.” He went on to reaffirm the importance of sustaining this accomplishment by conducting periodic employee trainings and by carrying out internal and external audits on a regular basis.
It is worth mentioning that in 2014, CEGCO’s Aqaba Thermal Power Station obtained the Social Security Corporation’s Occupational Health and Safety Incentive Award of Excellence, in recognition of its noteworthy performance in this field.
