Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Two Saudi Arabian border guards including a senior officer were killed and a third was injured on the kingdom's frontier with Iraq following a “terrorist” attack, the Interior Ministry said on Monday.

The unidentified attackers opened fire at a border patrol near Arar, in the Northern Borders Province at about 4:30 am local time on Monday, the ministry said. When security officers responded, one of the attackers detonated an explosives belt, the ministry said in a brief statement carried by the official Saudi Press Agency.

“The situation was dealt with as required by besieging the attackers and killing one of them; while one of the terrorist elements detonated an explosives belt he was carrying, which resulted in his death and the martyrdom of two security men and injuring a third one,” the ministry said, according to a statement by the Interior Ministry.

“The Security Spokesman said that the incident is still under security follow-up and a supplementary statement will be issued to clarify the details,” the statement added.

One of those killed was a senior officer, said the ministry's spokesman Major General Mansour Turki.
