Jordan participates in the Arab Atomic Energy meeting in Tunisia

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - A delegation from the Jordan Atomic Energy Commission (JAEC) participated in the 54th regular session of the Executive Council of the Arab Atomic Energy Agency (AAEA), held in Tunisia from December 11 to 13.

The Council discussed the Arab Strategy for peaceful uses of atomic energy, which is of great importance in establishing the infrastructure necessary to implement nuclear energy projects.

The Council stressed the importance of regional and international cooperation for the establishment of an integrated national system for scientific research and technology development and the preparation of national strategies for the development of Arab human resources for the implementation of projects in the field of nuclear energy and its applications.

The participants discussed the draft of an amendment to the agreement to establish the AAEA in accordance with the provisions of the unified system of the specialized Arab organizations, emanating from the General Secretariat of the Arab League.

The Council also discussed the AAEA's reports, programs and activities for the current year as well as the proposed scientific activities for the next year, amounting to about 40 activities, including training workshops, specialized courses and experts' meetings.

Jordan was entrusted with hosting a number of these activities, particularly in the area of nuclear applications, nuclear programs and awareness in addition to several workshops and specialized local training courses in the Kingdom, which have been proposed by concerned local institutions.

During the meetings of the Council, it was agreed to hold the 12th Arab Conference on peaceful uses of atomic energy from May 16 to 20, 2015 in Egypt, in which Arab scholars would participate to discuss specialized scientific papers.

The Council also approved to hold the Third Arab Forum on the prospects for electricity generation and seawater desalination using nuclear energy, which will be hosted by the Kingdom of Bahrain from November 22 to 24, 2015.
