Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - His Majesty King Abdullah II, on Wednesday, received the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Secretary General, Jens Stoltenberg, and a delegation of the participants at NATO's Mediterranean Dialogue ambassadors forum, being hosted by Jordan.
His Majesty stressed Jordan's keenness to cement a partnership and cooperation with NATO, as well its commitment as a partner to working effectively, together with the alliance and international and regional parties, to promote peace, security and stability in the region.
The King called for the building on the results of the NATO summit, which was held in Wales in the United Kingdom in September, to strengthen coordination between all parties in dealing with various global challenges.
His Majesty highlighted Jordan's stances on various regional and international issues, especially counter-terrorism efforts and addressing cross-border radicalism.
Fighting terrorism requires a comprehensive and strategic approach, the King emphasized, pointing to the important role of the NATO in support of regional and international efforts in that regard.
The King and Stoltenberg discussed NATO's role in training and building the defensive capabilities of a number of countries together.
This follows the alliance's recent commitment, at the recent summit in Wales, to build defense capabilities of a number of partner states, including Jordan, which entails providing support and training in defense and military fields.
With regard to the efforts to achieve peace in the Middle East, His Majesty the King emphasized that the Palestinian issue remains the crux of the conflict in the region, warning that the failure to bring about a comprehensive and just solution threatens to fuel extremism and intolerance.
On Syria, the King called for the finding of a comprehensive solution to the crisis. He further called for efforts to strengthen the unity of the Iraqi people.
NATO's secretary general expressed appreciation for Jordan's pivotal and important role in promoting security and world peace and supporting international efforts in this regard, noting that the NATO is keen to enhance cooperation with the Kingdom to serve the strategic partnership between the two sides.
