Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - His Majesty King Abdullah II and US President Barack Obama held a summit meeting at the White House on Friday that focused on bilateral cooperation, the Jordanian-US strategic partnership and ways to further boost it in various fields.
The King’s visit to Washington resulted in the renewal of the Memorandum of Understanding for another 3 year at a value of $1 billion annually. The US also pledged to offer a third package of loan guarantees to Jordan.
The summit also dealt with the latest developments in the Middle East, mainly efforts to achieve peace between the Palestinians and Israelis in addition to efforts of the international community to fight terrorist organizations and deal with the situation Syria and Iraq.
In a joint press statement following the meeting, His Majesty voiced Jordan’s thanks for the US’s support to the Kingdom and to the budget through the renewal of the MoU which comes at a critical stage as Jordan hosts about 1.5 million Syrian refugees or 20 percent of the population.
The King said that the US support will a positive impact on Jordan at all levels.
His Majesty said that Jordan and the Untied States are keen to confront extremism and are proud to fight ISIS in both Syria and Iraq.
On Syria, King Abdullah said that Jordan is committed to supporting a comprehensive political solution to the Syrian crisis, adding that part of the discussions focused on ways to achieve that.
He also thanked President Obama for his efforts to advance peace talks between the Palestinians and Israelis as the world is pressing ahead with the fight against terrorism and extremism that face the whole world.
The Us President for his part said the United States will continue its support to Jordan and increase aid to $1 billion annually in addition to providing loan guarantees to the Kingdom.
He said the talks with His Majesty focused on the challenges that face us in the region, mainly efforts to fight ISIS in both Syria and Iraq, noting that Jordan is a strong partner in the coalition against ISIS.
Obama added that the talks also dealt with regional issues, mainly efforts to bring about peace between the Palestinians and Israelis, noting that he also briefed His Majesty on talks to reach a deal with Iran on the nuclear issue.
The Untied State, he added will also continue it support to Jordan in order to enhance its political and economic reforms.
At the meeting, which was attended by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Hussein Bin Abdullah II and other top Jordanian and US officials, the two leaders also discussed bilateral ties and ways to further enhance them in various fields.
The King and Obama exchanged views on regional and international efforts to fight terrorist organizations that threaten the security and stability ion the region.
